Volunteers :

The volunteer's primary responsibility at Rye Hospital Center is to develop and maintain helping relationships with patients under supervision.

Internship Program : Under our well-established, pre-professional internship program, which has served more than 800 volunteers from more than 75 colleges and universities during the last thirty years, students serve as mental health workers--directed and supervised by fully trained professionals--most have received academic credit for their work with us, and all have found the service-learning experience helpful in making or confirming career choices.

These internships offer direct involvement in occupational, creative arts, horticulture and recreational therapies, as well as in Behavioral Medicine. Undergraduate student volunteers are expected to serve a minium of eight hours weekly for a three month period. Graduate internship program supervision and hour requirements are respected. Volunteers in the program are expected to meet the same professional standards of maturity and performance as paid mental health workers and are, in addition, expected to make an effort to attend scheduled conferences and to avail themselves of reading material and inservice training opportunities.
